With a true passion and belief in the importance of education, Kevin Metzger has spent the past decade working with many students, advocating for and stressing the importance of technical fundamentals, creative expression, and artistic freedom.
Now maintaining an active and engaged private studio out of Austin, TX, Kevin first began teaching at the age of 19 and since has had many students across the United States enter his studio in guitar, piano, music theory, and ideas relative to the study of improvisation. A former resident of New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, he has been employed by Boston Public Schools, The Music Tree of Boston, Keys for Kids, The Greater Syracuse School of Music, Say Yes to Education, and more.
From 2015-2017, Kevin was awarded a teaching fellowship through the New England Conservatory’s Community Performances & Partnerships that allowed him to operate an in-school and after-school guitar program with Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School with an added focus on helping and working with students with disabilities.
Kevin holds a dedication towards continually trying to improve on his own methods as a teacher and strives to provide the quality of education and mentorship he has received from his own teachers: Eliot Fisk, Dr. Jerome Mouffe, Dr. Kenneth Meyer, John Gibbons, Dr. Elisa Dekaney, Richard Smirnoff, Mark Copani, and too many more to list.
